The Sox are out on the West Coast this week, playing in San Diego and Seattle. In six west coast games so far this year, they’ve scored a total of ten runs. Yet they managed to win a couple of those games, thanks to Schilling’s one-hitter, and Dice-K’s second consecutive strong outing. But for some reason, our bats don’t seem to work well on PST. Meanwhile they have four more games on the current trip, and then return for another six in August.
And it looks like August will be the determinative month again this year. In 2004, August was when the Sox ran the table, and climbed back into the AL east, winning something like 20 out of 22 during one stretch. Last year August was the month when the wheels fell off. The pitching had been terrible for a while; Sox were allowing five or more runs in almost every game; yet Papi’s late-inning heroics had kept them in the race. Until August. By September the season was over.
This year Sox go on the road for most of August, playing tough road series with the Angels, the White Sox and the Yankees, among others. They’ve played well on the road so far this year, one of the reasons they’re 21 games over 500. But I’m holding my breath about this coming August.
Make that 22 games above five hundred. The Sox took their series with the Padres, by stealing the final game from Jake Peavy. Beckett held San Diego to two runs over eight innings; Papelbon shut the door in the ninth; and we managed to put up four runs, our season max for west coast baseball. But it was enough to sneak out of town with a win. And the way the starters are going right now, four runs is often enough to get the job done. So maybe I’m too apprehensive about these Pacific time zone road trips. Let’s see how things go in the northwest.

Oh Pleeease!
This self deprecating redsox fan stuff is old. Analysis of current status followed by the ever pending future doom.
Step to the table and simply say, 'We are the best team and no one will catch us in the regular season.'
The Yankees are playing badly and the redsox are not. As a Yankee fan when we play badly it is an aberration to be corrected in the next series of games. With the redsox fan playing well is a miracle and the future will surely disappoint.
So let the games continue.

Yo G-man we gotta meet. Your getting stronger with every read. As always your on the mark. Berg this snivilling is so unbecoming. While I think the late season flop is always a possibility all Boston needs is to play 500 ball. I believe they will do better than that and you have every reason to be loud and proud. If there is a baseball god we will see you in the playoffs.
By the way did you catch the opening game of the first ever professional baseball league in Israel? Modiin Miracles beat the Tel Aviv Tigers 9 - 1 in front of a sold out stadium of 4000. "From Moses to Sandy Kofax" - Berg does it get any better then this????
daled
daled,
Where do we meet for a drink?
Now that we have bitch slapped Berg let's see the next post from Manny De Montaigne drinks single malt.
Unfortunately we need to focus on the wild card which will probably come down to beating out the Indians. We only have 3 away games with them in August but they play the Tigers and Twins many times. But to get to that point we need help at first, a better bull pen and starters that pitch more than 5-6 innings. That maybe too much to ask for this year.
Our ride may come to an end this season until we start our new ride.
I caught some of the press on pro ball in Israel but missed all of the details.

Fran's Borther Bruce played a very large role in making this league come to life. Even better, his son is a picher for Ra'anana. I watched a game last night and T.V. and it is really amazing to see how little people know about baseball here.
I am learning about liberal feminism in Israel right now so I need to get back to the lecture,
homie
