So much to post about, and so little time. In no particular order, here’s what needs to be addressed in the next few posts:
Mike Lowell. When is Theo going to get off the dime and sign this guy? I don’t quite get how we draw a line in the sand for Lowell, who led the team in RBIs, and was the World Series MVP, but we didn’t draw the same line for J.D. Drew. Now I know Drew hit well after Labor Day, and had that grand slam to kick off Game Six of the ALCS, announcing to the Indians that they weren’t in Kansas anymore, or wherever Cleveland is supposed to be, but still, Drew was an unknown, who had half the run production of Lowell. Really, give him the extra year already.

There’s more to say about Genesis. I’ve finished Joseph’s Bones, another unsatisfactory look at the origins of Judaism. And I want to return to Abraham and post about the call. I’ve concluded that Abraham’s call is the most important event in Jewish history, more so than the Exodus, more so than Sinai. This runs completely counter to all Jewish learning and tradition, but the fact is, without Abraham answering the call, there is no Jewish learning or tradition.
Finally, we have a governance issue to discuss. Rico asks why we don’t grant posting rights to the Yankee crew. It seems like a reasonable suggestion, but at the same time, doesn’t it seem like a desecration of RedSox values to allow equal standing to the Yankee perspective? I also wonder if it wouldn’t bring the Sox some bad Karma. How about this idea? Why not a sister blog dedicated to the rivalry? Red and pinstripes could post, or could comment; everyone could have their say right on the front page of the blog, right there for all the world to see. Whatever happens, I think the family needs to be of unanimous mind on this important issue. So, John, and Mike, let’s hear what you think. And in the meantime, Theo, get the guy signed already.

a couple of topics to weigh in on. first i'm not sure i agree with uncle rico on the subject of posting rights on this blog.this blog is a window to the rothenberg mind on 3 general topics and as such is the reason for my readership.were that to change i would be less inclined to read or respond to it.the idea of a sister blog on the rivalry could be lots of laughs though.
second i was unaware of any fanhood related to the Celtics and while i am not one to challenge someones fanhood is this new? have you given up on Denver and Melo?
finally i went to dinner last night at Lento, a relatively new bistro in Village Gate which touts its locally grown food supply.it was actually my second time there, the first being rather unmemorable except for a fair pour of Highland Park 18 for which i was only charged $6.clearly a mistake and one which i was certain would be corrected on any future visit.well upon being seated i made the proverbial beeline to to the bar ostensibly to look over the malt selection.the barmaid gave me a printed drink menu which listed several single malts but alas nothing noteworthy and certainly no Highland Park 18.as i scanned the back bar for i know not what to my surprise there indeed stood the little darling.apparently unaware of its existence i pointed it out to the barmaid.as the scotch gods would have it when i asked the price of a pour she reasoned that if the 15 year olds were fetching $8 then certainly this was worth $9.reasonable by any standard. i ordered what turned out to be a 4oz pour and it complimented my dinner beautifully which turned out in fact to be quit good.the bill arrived and the charge was again $6.it would seem the computer register recognizes the entry as Highland Mist, an entirely forgettable whiskey (Canadian maybe).while my conscience suggests i need to point out the error to management, the scots in me says, bottoms up!
in case it wasn't obvious the above was posted by .....daled
Not new. Was a Celts fan before I ever moved to Boston. I loved Russell, the ultimate team guy, and hated on Chamberlain, who came to the Sixers, after the Nationals had left Syracuse and went to Philly. Imagine that; we used to watch Nats-Celts games in the War Memorial - Dolph Schayes, Johnny Kerr, Hal Greer for the Nats, and Cousy, Sharman and Russell for the Celts, who always won.
As for the Nuggets, it would only become an issue if they happened to meet in the finals, and how I'd feel about that, I just don't know.
Nice story about the HP 18. Don't we just love the barmen and maids who pour those big drinks?
Back from my business travels to Portland, OR and Naples, FL and a lot sure has happened in the AL East. The redsox appear to have signed Lowell (good thing the Yankees did not need him or they would have given him 4 years). The Yankees have signed Posada and more than likely Mo. Then of course Warren Buffet's intervention with A-Rod. I for one was not sorry to see A-Rod go but having said that the 3rd base option would have been difficult. I must be realistic, this is not A-rod crawling back to the Yankees, he got a huge contract. The best part is Boras getting some of his due (and $14M). I hope A-rod can learn to become a MVP in the post season. Now the Yankees will use their young players to get a pitcher (hopefully Santana).
Best whisky moment on my travels was in my hotel in Naples. Good bar with a descent single malt selection. I chose the Macallan cask strength at $15. The bar maid finished the bottle (easily a double pour) and did not charge me. Of course she got a very good tip. The whiskey was good but not as flavorful as the Macallan Fine Oak 17 or 15.
I am looking forward to see the Orange on ESPN 21st and the 24th (NIT).
Finally regarding the Yankee postings. Daled, Rico and I "do not need no stinking badges" or blessings from arrogant redsox fans to infect this blog. What is the purpose of this or any blog if there aren't any comments? Many of your redsox blogs are the results of the Yankees. Let the blog and comments continue.
