Where Have All the Haters Gone?

As the ALCS drew to a conclusion, the activity on this blog reached a frenzied level. All across the northeast, haters were inspired to comment on recent postings, many reaching new and audacious creative heights, and all of them talking relentless shit on the Sox. At one point yesterday, it became almost impossible to keep up with all the comments, as the frequency and length of the haters’ musings grew to previously unimaginable levels. And then suddenly, it all came to a halt. Simultaneously it seemed, all the haters’ voices were stilled; not a one had a single thing to add. What caused this change?

The answer lies in the chronology of events. A careful look at the timing of yesterday’s comments reveals that the last hater’s comment was posted by Unkle Rico, and came on-line at 5:38 pm. That coincided almost precisely with yesterday’s posting, Not Evil Enough. I submit that when Rico put his last comment up, he had not yet read Not Evil Enough. In fact, Rico’s last comment quotes repeatedly from this writer’s brief comment at 4:55 pm, which merely promised a more thoughtful rejoinder to the day’s Yankee postulations. So then the question is, what was it about the last posting that silenced the haters?

It had to be the plague story. It’s one thing for each of us to confront our opponents’ respective opinions, but quite another to face up to the incontrovertible facts. And the plague story is based purely on fact, and not at all on opinion. I mean, we all watched that game. We all saw the bugs crawling all over Carmona. But not one of those ‘insects’ interfered with Carmona's ability to throw strikes. Not in the least. On the other hand, Chamberlain was completely undone. His control disappeared, and the tying run came across the plate. So as much as they’d like to argue, the haters really have nothing to say about the plague. We’ll have to wait for Game One, I suppose, before the dialogue resumes.

Comments on Not Evil Enough and Where Have All the Haters Gone?

I do not know if I can address all of the rebuttals, comments and misguided postings but here I go.

Berg - Have you forgot that all of this started with your blog 'Read All About It'? The reason there was spontaneous reaction to that blog is the opening sentence and reference to Yankee fans not being aware of the outcome of game 7 of the ALCS. And the further superfluous accolades for a team (with 3 past WS MVP's) that lead the AL East from wire to wire. What continues to be front and center in a redsox fan's mind is how to best rub their success in the Yankee fan's face. Going back to early blogs over the course of the season will reinforcement my assertion. Even in a season of good play and the best record in MLB the redsox fan is more likely to dis the Yankee fan than to be happy with their own success.

This goes to the heart of the difference in our approach to winning. On one hand you have the evil Yankees with their storied franchise, 26 World Championships, countless inductees to the HOF and a respectful approach to game and heritage to baseball. The Yankee fan has responded to 'adversity' much better than the redsoxs. The Yankees struggled through long periods and emerged with winning teams in the early 60's, late 70's and of course the late 90's. We have been tested and emerged with success. If you say 'no one wants to be you' then stop focusing on our approach to the game of baseball and winning.

The redsox on the other hand are the nouveau rich of the AL. Like most nouveau rich the fans are preoccupied with in your face bling-bling than the virtues of their new found wealth. The classy redsox players of past seasons have been replaced by idiots, cowboys and whatever. They do not leg out hits and stand to admire their HR. They are more interested in facial hair and do rags than respect for the game. Some will say this is our persona if so you can keep it.

As said earlier this week I am not a happy Yankee fan with the dismissal of Torre. I hope they hire Mattingly, certainly not for his experience but for his attitude and passion for the game. And I hope that the new Boss team will not bring us back to the 80's. As a Yankee fan I want to win but it is also important to respect the game.

I do not believe any Yankee fan that has posted a comment to your blogs has voiced 'hate' of the redsox. It is the redsox fans that interpret our comments as hate. The redsox fan has always 'hated' the Yankees for what they have accomplished. They always (until the last 3 years) found ways to lose (instead of 'getting beat by')to the Yankees. It was never a recognition of the attitude, talent and determination that have been the Yankee's corner stone for decades.

So wallow in your new found wealth and attribute your success to divine intervention and subsequent failure of the Yankees. While you expound on the virtues of bugs we will go back to our 'evil' ways of winning.

Go Yankees (albeit for 2008)!!

While you guys debate the meaning of the word hate, I'll offer you a definition of plague.
noun

1. A cause of suffering or harm: affliction, bane, curse, evil, ill, scourge, woe.

A longer post may be forthcoming, but I'm too busy trying to catalyze a paradigm shift in the investment world, to devote every day to trying to open the nation's eyes to one that's already happened.

Although it's pretty cool that the sox posts and comments are completing my jigsaw for me.

First of all, since apparently some baseball's being played tonight, good luck nation.

Since all of you should be made aware of this, if you're not already:
